The Spring Valley farmer's markets will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday on the corner of Spalding and Cleveland streets (former Immaculate Conception Church parking lot). The markets, which will feature locally grown and homemade food and products, will be held weather permitting through September. The 10th annual CommUnity worship will again be a part of the 162nd annual Bureau County Fair. The service will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, with Andy Schmeck as the featured speaker. Admission to the grandstand for this service is free, with shuttle service from the west parking area to the grandstand. Attendees should enter using the west gate off South Fairground Avenue. After attending worship, adults may enter the midway through the ticket gate by the grandstand for $3 (regular $5); children age 7-12 are $2; and children 6 and under are free.

The Homestead Festival's Theme this year is “Home Sweet Home.” The parade will step off at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, on Main Street. Several popular entries will be back this year, including South Shore Drill Team, Black Hawk Pipe & Drums, and Metropolitan Youth Program team.
